Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) Codes

CIP codes are at the heart of FAEIS data. They are used to define student survey disciplines, and to classify faculty. CIP codes are also used used by the Instituional Research office at your institution for submitting data to the US Dept of Education (NCES survey). FAEIS allows YOU to choose the CIPs that best define the educational programs in your college. Can't Find a CIP? (new and emerging programs)

The FAEIS Office continues to try to identify new and emerging programs, especially those programs that do not have cooresponding CIP codes. In many case the new programs are multi-disciplinary, but sometimes they really are new fields like Viticulture and Organic Agriculture that have not yet been classified. If you think your program fits in this category, please contact us with this information, and we will keep track of it for future use (see below).

CIP 2010

Every 10 years the US Department of Education publishes a new set of CIP codes. The process will begin in 2008, and the FAEIS office will assist USDA/REEIS to ensure the programs in our participating institutions are are properly classified.
