Data Entry

Academic Area
FAEIS student survey data are collected by disciplines as defined by CIP codes. Reporting the disciplines can be summarized by academic areas and further defined by program areas. An example of a academic area is Animal Science, which would include all the disciplines related to Animal Science.

Assigned Surveys
Each student survey or discipline is assigned to one or more data entry user. Multiple data users are useful when the data entry responsibilities are divided. For example, one person may enter the undergraduate information and another person would enter the graduate information.

CIP Codes
Classification of Instructional Programs codes were created by the U.S. Department of Education to assist in collecting, analyzing and reporting data in a systemic procedure. FAEIS uses a subset of the CIP codes to collect and report data by disciplines related to Food and Agriculture. This is the smallest level of reporting programs.

College Coordinators
The role of the FAEIS College Coordinators can vary from one institution to another. The coordinator may just monitor the data entry of FAEIS data or take a more active role by creating and assigning surveys. All coordinators are authorized to identify disciplines for their college and assign the disciplines to a person who will be responsible for data entry. Also, coordinators are authorized to view all the college's data and they can use the FAEIS Custom Report Builder to view and summarize national data.

Contact Your Users
This is a feature of the FAEIS application that allows the College Cordinators to send electronic messages to his/her data entry users.

Create a Survey
The first time the College Coordinator logs in to FAEIS there are no surveys for the college. To create surveys for the college the coordinator must select disciplines from the list of CIP codes.

Degrees Awarded
Number of degrees awarded during the past academic year by discipline, degree level, ethnicity and gender.

Disciplines
Student survey data are collected by disciplines. The disciplines used for FAEIS are a subset of the U.S. Department of Education's Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP).

Enrollment Types
FAEIS data is collected by the following Enrollment Types: Two Year or Associate, Baccalaureate, Masters (thesis), Masters (other), Doctoral (PhD), Doctoral (DVM), and Doctoral (other).

Faculty Surveys

Faculty Survey Management
Using the Faculty Survey Management feature College Coordinators identify the user that will be completing the faculty surveys for a department or college.

FAEIS
The mission of the Food and Agricultural Education Information System (FAEIS) Project is to gather and compile a broad range of higher education information related to the food and agricultural sciences (Agriculture, Forestry, Renewable Natural Resources, Human Sciences/Family and Consumer Sciences, Veterinary Medicine/Veterinary Science, and closely allied fields). FAEIS provides empirical information for use in planning, benchmarking, and coordinating efforts, directed towards supporting higher education in the food, agricultural and natural resource sciences.

FAEIS ID and Password
A FAEIS ID and Password are assigned to FAEIS coordinators and data providers. The ID and Password give the users access to the online computer system. The FAEIS ID is typically the user's e-mail address.

FAEIS Sponsors
The professional associations involved in designing and promoting FAEIS.

FAEIS Users
Any person that uses the FAEIS, whether it is to enter data or to review report summaries.

FTE
Faculty appointments to Extension, Research, and Teaching are defined by FTE (Full Time Equivalent). The FTE for faculty should total 1.0.

Institution Type
FAEIS data is collected by Institutions and each Institution is identified as one of the following: 1862 Land Grant, 1890 Land Grant, 1994 Land Grant and Non-Land Grant.

To access or login to the data entry system and reporting system a user must use enter their FAEIS ID and Password.

New Faculty Member
Any faculty member employed since the last FAEIS survey.

Optional ID String
The names of faculty members are not entered in the system. The Optional ID String can be used by the data provider to identify the faculty member with the faculty member's personal data.

Peer Panel
The FAEIS Peer Panel is composed of a person appointed by each of the sponsoring organizations, USDA representatives and the project directors. The panel members provide guidance, advice and serve as an advocate for FAEIS.

Placement
Data regarding the placement of students upon completion of their degree in various clusters of employment defined by the Department of Labor.

Program Areas
Program Areas are defined by disciplines. The FAEIS data is defined by the following six Program Areas: Agriculture, Agriculture Operations, and Related Sciences; Family and Consumer Sciences/Human Sciences; Natural Resources and Conservation; Veterinary Medicine; Related Biological, Physical, and Social Sciences; and Non-AG., NR, HS, Forestry or Vet. Med. This is the broadest grouping of disciplines assigned by FAEIS.

Quick Tour Movies
There are several Internet Movies in the Help Desk section. These movies provide instructions on how to use FAEIS.

Report Builder
A computer application that allows the user to build a report with the FAEIS data to meet their particular needs.

Reporting Period
The FAEIS reporting period is current Fall Student Enrollment, the previous academic year for Student Degrees Awarded and Placement and current Faculty employed.

Student Enrollment
The number of students enrolled in the Fall by disciplines by ethnicity and gender.

Student Surveys
FAEIS has Student Surveys for enrollment, degrees awarded and placement.

Student Survey Management
To create a student survey disciplines are selected and then the disciplines are assigned to data entry providers. This is the Student Survey Management System.

Survey
Two main surveys comprise FAEIS. The Student Survey which consists of enrollment, degrees awarded and placement data. The Faculty Survey collects demographic data, FTE and salary data for faculty.

Survey Status
Student Survey status is "not started", "started" or "finished". The system changes the status from not started to started, when the first data is entered. The user must change the status to finished when they have completed each survey.

User Management
The User Management feature allows the College Coordinator to add and delete users and edit information about a user.

Unassigned Surveys
Surveys (disciplines) that have been selected, but have not been assigned to a user.

FAEIS Report Builder Terms and Definitions

Filters
This is a method of selecting a special grouping of data for a report. Allows the report to be more specific based on the selection of variables.

Layout
The Layout section of the Report Builder is where the format of the report is defined.

Multi-Year
Mult-Year is selected when you wish for the report to include data over several years.

Output in Dataset Style
Data defined by the Report Builder can be output in a format that will permit the user to export the data into another application like SAS or SPSS.

Report By
The Report By feature allows reports to generate with multiple tables.

Set Report
This sets the parameters you have selected for the report you wish to create. Must be invoked prior to viewing the report output.
